Marine & Diesel Engine Fuel Oil Automatic Filter

DACT

Self Cleaning Automatic Filter

The DACT filter represents cutting-edge technology in fuel oil filtration, providing complete protection for Diesel engine injection pumps, exhaust valves, and piston rings. It is an automatic backwashing filter operated by an electric motor, with cleaning activated “on condition” based on pressure drop or a timer. It provides superior protection for diesel engine injection pumps, exhaust valves, and piston rings compared to any other system.

The DACT filter uses the same filtered fluid as the backwashing medium, offering maximum installation flexibility, whether on the cold supply side or the hot booster side, while preventing contamination of the fluid from external agents. Its single, robust stainless steel filtering element ensures precise filtration, achieving a degree of up to 10 µm.

This effectively protects the fuel oil circuit from even the smallest and most harmful impurities, including catalytic fines (CAT fines).

Main features

Unmatched performance

No other filter on the market offers the same level of efficiency, durability, and ease of use as the DACT filter. It has been installed in thousands of applications worldwide, establishing itself as a benchmark in the industry.

No external resources needed

The DACT filter functions without requiring additional cleaning media such as compressed air. The filtration element does not need routine cleaning, and no specialized tools or chemical agents are necessary, making maintenance virtually unnecessary.

Superior strength and reliability

Designed for uninterrupted operation, the DACT filter delivers precise filtration, capturing particles as small as 10 μm absolute. Its stainless steel-reinforced filtering element withstands differential pressures up to 10 bar (145 psi). The housing, made of EN-GJS400-15 cast iron, is produced under rigorous quality controls and approved by leading classification societies and navies.

Eco-friendly operation

Because the DACT filter does not use compressed air for backwashing, it prevents the buildup of sludge and algae while keeping the lubricating oil free from condensate and unwanted deposits. Additionally, it eliminates the need for disposable cartridges, minimizing environmental impact.

Enhanced fuel efficiency

One of the DACT filter’s most distinctive advantages is its extremely low consumption of backwash fluid – significantly less than the total filter volume. This design ensures considerable cost savings during operation. See below for further details on how this innovative feature contributes to efficiency.

Installation

The DACT filter provides superior protection for the diesel engine’s injection pump, exhaust valves, and piston rings compared to any other system. The removal of harmful particulates generated by catalytic refining, which cannot be separated by the centrifugal separator due to their specific gravity being equal to or lower than the fluid itself, requires a filtration degree of 10 μm absolute, a precision that only the DACT filter can provide.

A key advantage of the DACT filter is its ability to use the same filtered fluid for the cleaning cycle, consuming only 5 to 10% of the filter’s total volume. This results is a significant reduction in fuel consumption, with savings of approximately 90-95% per cleaning cycle compared to filters that rely on compressed air or static methods, which require complete drainage of the filter body.

For a typical diesel engine with a supply flow rate of 0.6 to 6.1 m³/h and a filtration degree of 10 μm absolute, annual fuel savings can range from 12,500 to 110,000 liters, assuming an average of four cleaning cycles per day.

The backwashing process is highly efficient, taking only 4 to 10 seconds and using a minimal amount of fluid, considerably less than the filter’s total volume, eliminating the need for refilling.

The only structural difference between the DACT and DACXT models is in the flange design: while the DACXT has standard DIN PN 16 flanges, the DACT is equipped with special square flanges for a more compact installation. The DACT filter can be installed either on the cold supply side or the hot booster side, as it does not require external backwashing fluids, and the filtering element is made of stainless steel for durability and reliability.

For additional protection, a safety or indicator filter is positioned downstream of the automatic filter, serving exclusively as a safeguard. Frequent clogging of this secondary filter signals irregular operation of the main filtration system, providing an early warning for maintenance and system adjustments.
